NC Football charges into 2010 with 27-14 win
Canal Winchester – The 2010 edition of Newark Catholic Football opened the year in strong fashion with a decisive 27-14 victory over the Harvest Prep Warriors Friday night.
The Green Wave hopes this season opening win sets in motion the path they will follow all the way into the 2010 D-VI playoffs. A path that will be heavily chartered away from White field as Newark Catholic will take their show on the road six times this year.
Under the lights and backed by a strong contingent of Green Wave fans, NC looked at ease in the big game atmosphere. Thanks to a well-timed and efficient game plan, the Green Wave posted 20 points while holding Harvest Prep scoreless through the first half of play. In the third quarter, the two big play strikes by the Warriors produced 14 points but would not be enough for NC to go away from its strong run game.
Despite the unfamiliar surface, NC employed a ground attack that chewed up the synthetic turf and kept the Warriors defense on the field. Senior tailback Britt Wilder rushed for 209 yards on 30 carries with four touchdowns on the ground. In the air, the accuracy of junior quarterback Garrett Vernau resulted in 116 passing yards on 5 of 7 passing in his debut as a starter.
Next Friday, Newark Catholic (1-0) will visit Nelsonville-York who defeated Trimble 14-6 in their opener.

2009-10 Boys Basketball Highlight Video Available
The Newark Catholic Boys Basketball program made history in 2009-2010. In addition to the first ever State Runner-up finish, NC was tagged the Associated Press D-IV Poll Champions, earned the first Regional Championship for boys basketball, recorded back-to-back District Titles, and took a share of the MSL-Ohio crown. Along the way, this group logged a school record 21 straight home victories spanning more than two seasons and set school records for single season wins (25), regular season record (19-1), and overall record (25-2). This 60 min. video created by Storied Rivals tells the story in its truest form. Here is a chance to not only relive the memorable games of the 2009-10 regular season and tournament run, but also you will see interviews from the seniors that anchored the team, candid locker room footage, and some of the lighter moments off the court. For more information on how to get your copy of the video email Coach Meister at ameister@laca.org.
