Dear Families,
Many thanks to everyone who has shared your
time and talents with our school community. As we prepare for the
closing of another school year, let us reflect on the happy times and
savor the excitement of the many memory-making events still to come. I
offer you this prayer, especially to our Seniors, as we enter into the
final days of our school year:
Lord, let me hear Your call in my heart so
that I may know how You would like me to serve You in my life. Help me
to recognize and appreciate my talents and abilities. Send me hope and
dreams for my future so I may be led along the right paths. Help me to
use the gifts You have given me for others as well as for myself. Help
me to sharpen my skills and learn all that I can. Draw me always closer
to You so that whatever I do may bring You glory. Amen.

Incoming students: A reminder to all families that Diocesan Policy
states all outstanding bills (including tuition) must be paid in full in
order for a student to enroll for classes in the fall.
Students requesting Summer PE must submit a
completed medical form with the $50.00 check made payable to Newark
Catholic High School. Once these are received, the student will be
enrolled in the course.
Traditional Senior Farewell Mass: It has been a long-standing tradition
at Newark Catholic to celebrate the year-end with our Senior Farewell
Mass. This year the mass is May 23rd, 2008 at 8:30 am in the gym. This
is a time for the underclassman to say good-bye to the seniors. It also
marks the movement of the Junior Class into the school leadership role.
As always everyone is invited to our school masses. We will dismiss at
1:30 pm on this day.
REMINDER TO SENIOR PARENTS: Each year we announce the academic
scholarships that are given to our students. We do this at Honors
Evening, as well as publishing them in the Honors Evening and Graduation
programs. In order to insure that we have the information and correct
wording, we request that your senior bring in to Mr. Lusk a copy of the
scholarship/grant award letters received. This includes all letters
received whether the student intends to go to a particular school or
not. This information is also needed for end of the year reports we must
complete. We do not announce need-based aid awards since this would be
an invasion of a family’s privacy. Please attend to this as soon as
possible. The printing deadline for the Honors Evening Program and
Graduation Program is May 18, 2008.
The Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) was given to
the class of 2010 in March. To check out information about the test and
sample questions, please go to
www.ode.state.oh.us/proficiency/PDF/OGTGuide.pdf (results will be
mailed home in June).
The
Long Range Planning Committee continues to work with the Diocese on a
“Feasibility Study” for the renovation and building plans for the
school. If you received a questionnaire in the mail, please return it as
soon as possible. Your input is very important. The results of the
“Feasibility Study” will be released by the Diocese May 28th.
If you did not receive a questionnaire and
would like to participate, please call Thom McManus at 344-3594 ext.

“Parents Who Host, Lose the Most: Don’t Be a Party to Teenage Drinking”
Program of the Drug-Free Action Alliance with support from the Ohio
Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services encourages everyone to
make positive choices concerning alcohol and drugs. The following is an
excerpt from their office:
Underage use of alcohol is a serious problem
that too often leads to harmful consequences for youth and their
families. Parents can protect themselves and their teens by following
these guidelines when hosting parties for their children:
· Host safe, alcohol-free activities and events for youth during
prom and graduation season.
· Refuse to supply alcohol to children or allow drinking in your
home or on your property.
· Be at home when your teenager has a party.
· Make sure your teenager’s friends do not bring alcohol into
your home.
· Talk to other parents about not providing alcohol at youth
events.
· Report underage drinking.
More information about this program is
available at
www.DrugFreeActionAlliance.org
Please continue to keep our school community
in your prayers. Let us pray for concentration during the final weeks of
school, positive choices at all social activities, and safe travel for
all who are enjoying the springtime!
May Our Lady continue to bless us.
Sincerely,
Beth Hill
