Items in Classroom Area: Freshman Guidance
A Few Reminders
April 23, 2012
As the freshmen near the end of their first year, there are a few things they and their parents should know:
Fourth quarter interim reports are now on line. If you have any questions, please contact your student’s teachers or me.
By now, hopefully, all freshmen and their parents should know about the “second semester rule”. If you have any questions, please contact me.
Remember we have second semester finals coming up. They count for 1/5 of your final grade.
For all fall athletes, remember that your fourth quarterGPA must be 1.9 or above to be to be eligible to participate in sports this fall. All freshmen up to this point have demonstrated they have the ability to obtain at least that GPA so don’t let your fellow teammates down by being ineligible. Make sure you are keeping up with assignments and, if you are having a difficult time in a particular class, go see the teacher and get some help.
Overall, this has been a very strong freshmen class academically. Encourage your student to finish strong and end the year with a strong final GPA as they head into their sophomore year.
Please see me with any concerns or questions. Thanks, Wes Poth

Schedules of Sophomore Year
April 2, 2012
On Wednesday, April 4, Course Request Verification Slips, will be given to every freshman. The slip cotains the classes the teachers have recommended for each student plus the electives that the students have selected to take their sophomore year. Please read the back of the slip which gives an explanation as to options your student may have in each of the subject areas. Look over the information. If you have any changes to make with the schedule please make them. Remember, there are prerequisites that must be met to take several of the courses. You can check the Academic Handbook that is on line to see the prerequisites. Sign the slip and return it to Mr. Young by Tuesday, April 10. If you have any questions, please contact me by e-mail at wpoth

Things Going on in January
January 20, 2012
As we roll into the second semester, there are a few things that you should be aware of as freshmen parents.
Grades should be posted on Progress Book. You will find your student’s grade for the second quarter, the semester final exam, and the first semester grade for each course. In the case of the semester courses i.e. theology, the semester grade is the final grade for the course and it becomes part of your student’s transcript.
I will be going into freshmen English classes on January 25 to begin the process of signing up for sophomore year classes. An appointment with me will not be necessary this year but I am available to answer questions. The Academic Handbook can be found on our website. It is useful in giving you information and prerequisites on classes.
Freshman guidance night will be held in the cafeteria at 7:00 on January 30. Information about sophomore scheduling will be covered as well as things freshmen can do to prepare for the rest of their career at NC and beyond.
As always , please contact me
