What’s Your Story?

January 5, 2012

Seniors – what is the legacy you want to leave at Newark Catholic? How do you want to be remembered? What are your best memories of high school that you will take with you to the rest of your life? These are just some of the things to think about as you prepare your “essay” for the yearbook.

  • fewer than 150 words (More is not better! if you can say it in 75 words, go with it!)
  • due Friday, January 6, 2012
  • You may give it to either Mr. Young or me, or you can email it to me at twiggintonatlacadotorg

Here is the presentation I used in class. And if you think of something that isn’t in there that you’d like to say, by all means — go for it!

Shooting Great Photographs

I tried to upload the presentation that we saw in class yesterday, but it was too big. So here is a link to the web page where I found it.

Here’s Where it gets Professional ~

September 12, 2011

We have officially kicked off our Business Ads Campaign! Today I gave each student a personalized and fully loaded Sales Notebook, complete with copies of ads from last year’s book, blank contracts, and even some paper for taking notes. We talked at length about who to ask for at a place of business, what to say to a prospect, how to handle negative responses, and how to present themselves professionally. Then we brainstormed sales prospects – each student got a chance to choose businesses that they thought would be easiest for them to approach. I gave the students ideas for making first contact by telephone or email, as well. They are ready to sell!

Ad sales are a vital part of producing the yearbook, as we could not possibly publish the book without the income from the ads. It’s also an important part of the yearbook curriculum; in what other class can they get this kind of real-world experience in presenting themselves with professionalism and maturity? It is vitally important to students’ success that parents support their students’ efforts in selling ads. Students who have permission from parents to do so will be able to leave campus during class this week to get a good start on their sales. Those who do not have permission will have to sell ads on their own, outside of school. Each student has an individual sales goal of $250 in sales by the end of September, which is very achievable. Anyone who reaches this goal will receive a 2012 yearbook free of charge as a thank-you for working hard to support the goals of the program.

We appreciate your support with this very important part of Yearbook class. As always, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Okay, guys – I think I sent this link to each of you last night, but I’ve heard that there are still problems with opening it. So we’re going to try again…and if this doesn’t work, we’ll just do it in class.

Tell the Story of the Year

August 28, 2011

Welcome to Yearbook!

This is the only class at Newark Catholic High School in which you leave a legacy that is tangible. Everyone who attends NC makes a mark – we know this – but the mark you make in this class becomes a permanent part of NC history. It’s an awesome responsibility, a great challenge, and – I hope! – a ton of fun.

For my first post, I’d like to introduce the Editorial Staff for the 2012 Bosconian yearbook. Please join me in congratulating:

Editor-In-Chief Kate Toth

Images Manager Brittany Wolfe

Design/Layout Coordinator Jayde Thompson

Business Manager Dakota Burger

Activities/Coverage Manager Augustina Bowman

A team made of awesome, if I must say so myself. This is going to be another *great* year!
