A Doll’s House Essay

AP Seniors,

 

Below is your prompt for the essay on A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen.  The essay is due on Friday, April 27.

 

Compose an essay of 3-5 paragraphs in which you establish A Doll’s House as a feminist play.  You should consider elements of the play such as the language, character development, historical context, etc.  Refer to your handout on feminist criticism to guide the process of writing your essay.

Extra Credit for A Doll House/Pygmalion

AP Students,

 

In order to earn extra credit toward your AP Practice Test category, you have the option to complete the following assignment(s) for extra credit.  Each assignment will be worth 3 points (subject to change).

 

For A Doll House and/or Pygmalion, you must find at least 10 words that you would deem to be Advanced Placement worthy.  For each of the 10+ words, you must write the word, the passage from the text where the word is used, and also the contextual definition of the word (the connotation).

 

These will be due one day after the completion of the reading.

 

For A Doll House, words will be due on Tuesday, April 24.

For Pygmalion, words will likely be due on Wednesday, May 2.

Read the poems by Robert Frost carefully.  Then, choosing only one, discuss how the style (diction, selection of detail), poetic devices, imagery, and/or structure reveal the author’s attitude toward the subject (the tone).
