Classroom Management:

The rules and regulations set forth in the Newark Catholic High School student handbook are to be followed. In addition, the following rules apply in World History class and are designed to optimize our learning environment on a daily basis.  Students unable to follow class procedure will be subject to detention, disciplinary referrals, or even lowering of their grade.

Guiding Principles:

Each student will be expected to take full advantage of their learning opportunities while modeling proper behavior.  Respect and self-discipline rank high among the values of the Catholic faith, and therefore will be present at all times in the classroom.  Students are expected to treat one another with respect and will NOT ridicule each other or speak in a demeaning manner. Statements such as “shut-up” or making fun of another student’s answer are not permitted in class. Failure to abide by this rule will result in detention or other disciplinary action.

Classroom Rules:

  • Bring a positive attitude to class each day.

  • Absolutely no drinking or snacking in class.

  • Be in your seat when the bell rings and stay seated until dismissed.

  • Use a raised hand system when asking questions or participating in class discussions.

  • Bring all daily materials as previously detailed to class each day.

  • A student may request no more than three (3) hall passes per quarter…the right of refusal remains with the teacher.

  • Respect yourself and those around you at all times.

  • No cells, MP3’s, etc.

  • No foul or inappropriate language or topics of discussion permitted.

  • No appearances of sleeping, cheating, or fighting.

Attendance and Preparedness:

  • Class attendance and participation is mandatory and students are expected to come to class prepared and on time each day.

  • NO HALL PASSES will be issued to collect student materials and students will be issued detentions if they arrive late and/or come unprepared.

  • Make-up work for Excused Absence:  has the same number of days as absent to make up the work without penalty.  All work completed beyond that point will be subject to 20% off and no late work is accepted after five (5) days.

  • NOTE: All tests will be announced at least two days in advance. If a student misses the day before a test, he/she is still required to take the test on the regularly scheduled day.

Classroom Discipline Plan:

  • First infraction – Verbal warning and reminder of classroom policies and procedures

  • Second infraction – Teacher detention and conference with student

  • Third Infraction – School detention and call home to parents
