97 -- 100 = A+
87 -- 89 = B+
77 -- 79 = C+
67 -- 69 = D+
93 96 = A
83 86 = B
73 76 = C
63 66 = D
90 92 = A-
80 82 = B-
70 72 = C-
60 -- 62 = D-
45 % TESTS AND QUIZZES -
Including all tests and quizzes but not the semester or final exam
35 % HOMEWORK - Includes all
assignments collected and any oral assignments
15 % PROJECT - There will be
one project each quarter which will be evaluated in phases.
5 % NOTEBOOK - You will be
required to keep track of all notes, handouts and assignments
To calculate your grade:
(TEST AVG. * .45) + (HOMEWORK AVG. * .35) + (PROJECT AVG. * .15) + (NOTEBOOK
AVG. * .05) = GRADE AVG.
Grade averages are rounded
to the first decimal place and may be positively influenced by class
participation, effort and general attitude towards class.
Extra credit projects will
not be given - DO NOT ASK.
TESTS:

All tests and
quizzes are to be taken on the day announced.
·
Students will
be notified in advance orally and on the board of all upcoming tests.
·
Any student
absent on a test day will be expected to contact me upon returning to schedule a
time for a make-up. You will have the same number of days to make it up as you
were out.
·
Failure to
make up a test within the allowed time will result in a zero.
HOMEWORK:
All homework assignments are
worth ten points unless I tell you otherwise.
Two points will be deducted
for each day late except in the case of absences.
When absent,
YOU are responsible for getting assignments and you have the same number of days
to complete them as you were out.

The following are
projects to look forward to enthusiastically:
LATIN I - research and
create maps of the Mediterranean world

build a Roman house

construct a collage of modem
influences I
build an item of
entertainment
LATIN II - create a mosaic /
four creative writing samples / report on an area of land under Roman control /
build a Roman city
LATIN Ill - written and oral
reports on a Roman and a Greek author
I
in-depth look at one area
of culture not covered in class
I build an item
of warfare
LATIN IV - written and oral
reports on a Roman emperor / review game based on the Trojan War / research
paper on comparative literature / written or physical summary of Aeneid
NOTEBOOK
Each student will be
required to keep a three-hole, bound notebook/binder containing the following:
-> 1-1/2" to 2" wide
-> clearly labeled and
separated sections
1. CLASS NOTES - GRAMMAR
contains all grammar notes and handouts
2. CLASS NOTES - CULTURE
contains all notes and handouts on culture, history, mythology
3. TRANSLATIONS
contains all Latin and English translations clearly labeled
4. HOMEWORK contains
all homework, class work and tests
5. MISC. contains
project info, and anything else
Before the end of each
quarter, you will receive a checklist containing all the papers you are
responsible for having and in which order they should be organized. At that time
you will turn in your notebook for a grade.
