Matthew 5:14-16 YOU ARE THE LIGHT

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.”

So what if we answered the call, and live truly as Christ for one another?

In the Sermon on the Mount, Christ gives us a clear roadmap of how we are to live our lives according to Him. In between the Beatitudes and His fulfillment of the Law, Jesus calls us the “light of the world.” The beauty of this statement is in what a lamp can be for ourselves and others. The lamp illuminates the path ahead of us, guiding us safely to Him. As we see however, Christ doesn’t mean for the lamp to just light our way, but the way for others. Newark Catholic has long understood this call by Christ. It is our challenge, here and now, to live it once again. Yes, we should highlight the good things that go on here at NC. If we are to live out this passage however, we must turn our lamps outward, as beacons in the darkness, drawing our school and community closer to Christ Jesus. In that, the Glory of God will be revealed.
