Tom Lusk Guidance Center

May 31, 2013

The
Building Our Future campaign will receive funds up to $75,000 from the Newark
Catholic Foundation for every dollar donated or pledged in Tom Lusk’s name. The
BOF committee will use this money to build the new Guidance Center. When the
project is completed, it will be named “The Tom Lusk Guidance Center.” As
of December 16, 2013, we have received over $65,000!

$10,000 to go!!!!!!

We have begun the bidding process so that we will be ready to build once the weather turns good again in the spring. With ONLY $10,000 to go, we know that we will get this project completed with your help!

Everyone
who has been a student, parent, grandparent, teacher, coach or faculty member
at Newark Catholic as been helped by Tom Lusk in some way. Whether it was
his smile when he said “Good Morning,” his sincere interest in your wellbeing,
or when he helped you as a parent or student to make college more affordable,
he was always there to make sure you were alright.

With
this “gift” from Tom, we can all repay him for the many gifts he gave us. You
can show your thanks to Tom Lusk, and his family, by donating money in his name
for the good of the school he loved. Any amount is acceptable and will be
matched by the NC Foundation. We will accept gifts and pledges with a two (2)
year maximum on pledges. We can accept monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and
annual pledges. We can automatically deduct your pledge from your account or
place it on a credit card (Mastercard & Visa only).

You
will be receiving an updated mailer with up to date information and an envelope,
for your convenience, to mail in your gift or pledge.

Please
take a few moments to reflect on your relationship with Mr. Lusk. Then discern
how much you can donate to help build the new Guidance Wing in his honor. It’s
not often we get a chance to say “Thank You” to someone who positively affected
our lives in such a grand way. Everyone who makes a donation or pledge will be
honored in the new Guidance Center along with the man who honored each of us
with his patience, diligence and love for everyone looking to better
themselves.

May 5, 2013

You can start signing up now for your service hours for the coming 2013 – 2014 school year.

Bingo continues all year and all signed-up hours for June 1 and after will be applied to the coming 2013-2014 school year.

Other events for 2013 – 2014 will be added soon, including Cafeteria and Summer Festival.  But don’t delay, start signing up for Bingo today so that we have the needed workers starting in June for this critical fundraising activity.

How do I get started, to sign up?

  • If you already have students at NC this year 2012-2013 and will have a student at NC again next year:

You can continue using your existing account.  All hours after June 1 will automatically be applied to the coming school year.

  •

  • If you are new to Newark Catholic this coming school year and will be participating in the service hours program per your tuition agreement:

You will need to create a new account.  Go to the NC home page and click on the service hours logo on the left.  Once there, click on the New User link on the top left.

Please also take a look at the “Getting Started” and the “FAQ” menu items, when you’re on the Service Hours home page.  This provides a good overview of this online service tool and what you’ll need to know.

Questions?

Please contact the school office if you have any questions about the Online Service Hours system.

Former “Phantom” Comes to NC

April 16, 2013

Franc D’Ambrosio, who played “The Phantom” in Phantom of the Opera longer than anyone on Broadway, held a master class at NC for performing arts students. The class was made possible by Nancy Evans Anderson (NC’79), Director of The Midland Theater.

Over fifty NC performing arts students as well as a few students from Newark and Johnstown attended this special master class. Junior Elizabeth Joyce sang “Reflection” from “Mulan” for D’Ambrosio. He helped her with “communicating” the emotion of the song. NC ’10 alum, Blake Talbott, who is a junior at Otterbein studying vocal performance, also sang.

When asked why he did this class, D’Ambrosio said, “It’s a passion. When I’m not performing, I’m teaching. I had a mentor when I was in school and I always thought it was a good idea to give back”.

We’re glad he did!
