Thank You for Successful 5K Run in Memory of Kayla and Devin

July 31, 2011

Thank You to all the participants, supporters, and organizers who helped make our 5K run in memory of Kayla Layton and Devin Reid a success.  About 200 runners and walkers participated in the event that was held on Saturday, July 30.

The run was organized by members of the Newark Catholic class of 2006, classmates of Kayla and Devin.  Kayla died in February this year from injuries sustained in a car crash.  Devin died in January 2009 from complications resulting from cancer.

Kayla and Devin participated in track and cross country while at Newark Catholic and the 5K run was a fitting way for friends to remember them.

The event raised about $2,000 for the Newark Catholic Foundation.

A related story can be found in the Newark Advocate here.

Baseball Brings Home 7th State Championship

June 13, 2010

The NC Baseball team cruised through the tournament on their way to Huntington Park out scoring their opponents 99-6 in six playoff games. Once the State Tournament began, the Green Wave continued on the same path by dismantling Convoy Crestview 9-1 making it the first time in the tournament that the team had to play all 7 innings. The State Final was a great baseball game played by two very good teams. The Greenies found themselves down 1 run after the first inning for the first time since the District. The offense was hitting the ball and Mitch Cox was pitching the game of his life. The Green Wave then scored its first run in the 3rd and added another in the 4th to secure its 7th State Title in Baseball tying for 2nd all time in Ohio behind Cincinnati Elder’s 11. One thing is for sure, we will be hanging another State Champs banner in the well decorated NC gymnasium. S
