Newark Catholic Names Josh Hendershot Head Football Coach
Newark Catholic High School has named alumnus, Josh Hendershot, as Head Football Coach. Hendershot is a former standout lineman at Newark Catholic, where he was named All-Ohio his senior year. He also was a member of the 2007 State Champion Football team. After graduating from Newark Catholic in 2010, Hendershot continued his football career at the University of Toledo. He started thirty-eight straight games on the offensive line and was named 2nd Team All Mid-American Conference as a senior.
“Josh is a perfect fit as the head football coach of Newark Catholic,” said Principal Tom Pickering. “His connection to this school and the football program, combined with his passion for playing and teaching the game, made him the perfect choice as we were reviewing the candidates and making a selection.”
Hendershot is not new to the Newark Catholic coaching staff; he was an Assistant Coach from June 2015 to December 2016 and before that was the Strength & Conditioning Coach as well as the Offensive Line Coach. In 2017, Hendershot was hired by the University of Toledo as an Offensive Graduate Assistant Coach working in multiple roles through 2018. In 2019, he spent the year with the University of Michigan football program as an Offensive Graduate Assistant working with the Offensive Line. Most recently, Hendershot spent the previous three years at the University of Dayton as the Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line coach in 2022, and the Run Game Coordinator and Offensive Line coach from 2021-2020.
“I am humbled and honored for the opportunity to return home to Newark Catholic High School as head football coach,” said Hendershot. “I would like to thank Principal Tom Pickering, Athletic Director Travis Schwab and the entire hiring committee for believing in me to lead one of the most tradition-rich programs in the entire state of Ohio. I believe in the leaders and the community of Newark Catholic and know that with a team effort, we will hang state championship banners for many years to come. My wife, Michala, and I are excited for our return home to Licking County and can’t wait to get started. Go, Green!”
Hendershot holds a M.A. from the University of Toledo and also earned his B.S. from the University of Toledo College of Health and Human Services in 2014.
