Robotics Team wins Rookie Inspiration Award!
The newly formed Newark Catholic Robotics team participated in it’s first competition this past weekend and despite having little to no experience in what to expect, they walked away with some hardware! They were awarded the Rookie Inspiration Award! Overall ended 21st out of 61 teams with a win-loss record of 5-4.
The team consists of 8 students with the youngest being a 7th grader and was led and supervised Mr. Russ Nelson (Math and Physics teacher), Mrs. Tess Wiggington (English and Media Communications teacher), Byron Bemis (parent volunteer). The NC Robotics Club was formed last fall and they quickly decided to enter their first competition in Cleveland this past weekend. They gained many valuable insights and learned what to do and not to do as they plan for next year’s competition. Their entire robot was built from donated parts and travel was made possible through monetary contributions from a variety of Newark Catholic supporters and families. The Robotics Team plans to hold a Lego Mindstorm camp this summer to teach young children the programming and engineering skills.
