Ana Sabo, daughter of Roy and Elizabeth Sabo, of Granville, has been awarded the 2012 Bishop Herrmann Service Award. She is a recent graduate of Newark Catholic.
Sabo’s volunteer service included National Honor Society; Drama Club; Newark Catholic summer gym assistant; Newark Catholic’s St. Joseph the Worker Day; the local Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s Thrift Store, Giving Tree and Haven; Licking County Humane Society; Star’s Cat Rescue; and New Beginnings family shelter.
She and her family are members of St. Edward the Confessor Parish in Granville. She plans to attend college in the fall to study fashion design.
The award was established by the late Columbus Bishop Edward Herrmann for graduating Catholic high school seniors who have displayed outstanding service to their schools and communities.
Nate Ohl Named to All-Diocesan Academic Honor Team
Nathanael Ohl, son of Paul and JoEllen Ohl of Alexandria, has been named to the Diocese of Columbus’ 2012 All-Diocesan Academic Honor Team. He is a graduating senior from Newark Catholic.
Ohl has participated in the National Honor Society, Latin Club and 4-H. He has competed on the varsity golf and wrestling teams as well as on the USA Ohio Greco-Roman Wrestling National Team.
He and his family are members of St. Edward the Confessor Parish, Granville, where he is an altar server. He attended St. Francis de Sales School. He has volunteered with Newark Rotary and Newark Catholic’s St. Joseph the Worker Day.
Ohl is one of this year’s class valedictorians, has been an honor roll student for all four years of high school. He is an academic All-Ohio for golf and the state runner-up for greco-roman wrestling. He also has received outstanding achievement awards in Latin I, II, and III; Biology I and II; Chemistry II; honors chemistry; Algebra II with trigonometry; pre-calculus; was the student of the year in honors geometry; and was a recipient of the Resnsselaer Polytechnic Institute Award in math and science. He will attend the United States Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., to study engineering.
