Ohio Catholic Schools are faith-centered learning communities across the state of Ohio, dedicated to nurturing the whole child—spiritually, academically, and socially. Rooted in the Catholic tradition, these schools emphasize strong academics, moral development, and service to others. They are accredited through the Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association (OCSAA), whose standards are recognized as comparable to the Ohio Department of Education’s Operating Standards, ensuring both faith formation and academic excellence. Together, Ohio Catholic Schools prepare students to live out their faith, achieve at high levels, and contribute meaningfully to society.
In 1994, the Bishops of Ohio formed the Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association (OCSAA). The OCSAA is a collaborative undertaking of the Catholic dioceses in Ohio and is governed by the Superintendents of Schools who serve as the OCSAA Commission. The purpose of the OCSAA is to strengthen Catholic school identity and mission and engage Catholic schools in the ongoing improvement of student learning.
The Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association (OCSAA) exists to strengthen the Catholic identity and mission of schools while ensuring the ongoing improvement of student performance. Accreditation requires schools to demonstrate evidence of meeting OCSAA Standards, which the State Board of Education recognizes as comparable to the Ohio Department of Education’s Operating Standards for Ohio’s Schools. Through this process, new Catholic schools may apply for a state charter, and existing schools can maintain theirs.
At the heart of the OCSAA process is a commitment to continuous improvement. As an OCSAA member, Newark Catholic High School engages in ongoing strategic planning to provide a high-performing learning environment where students are firmly rooted in their faith and excel academically.
Newark Catholic High School is fully accredited by the OCSAA and holds a charter from the State of Ohio to operate.
