What Is SPICE? Supporting Students, Strengthening Catholic Schools
SPICE stands for Special People in Catholic Education, and our mission is to help Catholic schools provide the support students need to be successful.
While SPICE plays an important role in supporting students with identified disabilities, our impact reaches much further. SPICE benefits ALL students by helping our schools better meet the many different needs of the children in their classrooms.
Children do not all learn in the same way or at the same pace. Some may need additional reading or math instruction. Others may benefit from help with organization, attention, communication, social skills, or other areas. A student does not have to have an IEP or a diagnosed disability to need extra support.
SPICE helps our Catholic schools respond to those needs.
Through fundraising and the generosity of our community, SPICE helps provide intervention specialists, educational resources, specialized programs, professional support, and other services that may not be covered through traditional school funding or state scholarship programs.
The result is something that benefits the entire school community.
When additional support is available, students can receive help before small struggles become larger ones. Teachers have additional resources to help meet the wide range of needs in their classrooms. Students are able to learn alongside classmates with different strengths and abilities, creating opportunities for understanding, patience, kindness, and acceptance.
And ultimately, that is what SPICE is about: supporting students, strengthening teachers, assisting families, and helping Catholic schools continue to be places where children of all abilities can learn, belong, and grow in faith.
When we support the needs of every learner, we strengthen Catholic education for everyone.
