Encountering Christ in a real way can be different for everyone. Accordingly, our campus ministry program seeks to give our students many different types of opportunities to come to know Jesus Christ and His Church more fully.

Reception of the Sacraments

Students attend Mass frequently for the First Friday devotion to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus as well as for numerous Holy Days, feast days, and special occasions. Students have time in quiet prayer as well through frequent Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and access to the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Retreats

Kairos Retreat

Kairos is a student-led, adult-supported, four-day retreat where seniors and select juniors are challenged to live their faith in a real and loving way. Kairos at Newark Catholic is about taking time out for God, leaving the world to grow in faith and friendship with the Lord and each other.

Damascus Retreat

Each year, sophomores have the opportunity to attend a three-day retreat at the Damascus Mission Campus in Knox County where they join students from all over the country to hear from speakers, celebrate the sacraments, Adore Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, and grow in fellowship with their peers.

In-School Class Retreats

Each year, our faculty prepares and leads day retreats for each class at NC.

Freshman Retreat Theme: Prayer.

Guiding question: Looking at the lives of the Saints and our different forms of prayer, how can we create and solidify a prayer life?

Sophomore Retreat Theme: The Eucharist.

Guiding question: How can our understanding of the Eucharist deepen and draw us closer to Christ?

Service Projects

St. Joseph The Worker Day

Every first Friday in May, in honor of the feast of St. Joseph the Worker, the NC student body disburses throughout the community to serve those in need–whether it is assisting at St. Vincent DePaul’s Thrift Store, cleaning headstones at Mount Calvary Cemetery or working with a variety of community partners. This day, in addition to many service opportunities throughout the year, demonstrates the dignity of our work and the model that St. Joseph is for all of us.

Pilgrimages

National March For Life

Newark Catholic students have supported the pro-life movement by participating in the National March for Life in Washington D.C. This trip is a beautiful example of our call to witness to the defense of human life at all stages and the dignity of the human person.

Pilgrimage To Rome For 2025 Jubilee Of The World Of Education

In October 2025, NC Principal, Tom Pickering; and Vice Principal, Stephanie Paul-Tiberio; along with school administrators throughout the Diocese of Columbus, made a pilgrimage to Rome with Bishop Fernandes for the Jubilee of the World of Education. This event was part of the Catholic Church’s "Pilgrims of Hope" jubilee year. Also known as a Holy Year, a jubilee year is a special year in the Catholic Church celebrated every 25 years that focuses on forgiveness, reconciliation and renewal.

This event brought together educators, students, and all those involved in the field of education to reflect on the transformative power of learning and its impact on society. The Jubilee featured a series of discussions, workshops, and spiritual activities designed to inspire and renew the commitment to educational excellence and faith-based learning.

Theology Classes

As part of graduation requirements, Newark Catholic students must have 4 credits in theology. Through this coursework, students deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith, which helps pave the way for their spiritual growth.
