Newark Catholic Campus Ministry

Campus Ministry at Newark Catholic is our faith put into practice. The goal of Campus Ministry is to see our faith lived out in every aspect of our school community. Whether that is through beginning Chemistry class in prayer or our Coaches modeling the faith to their teams, our Catholic faith is ingrained in everything we do. Campus Ministry seeks to give students the opportunity to make the decision to live out their faith. To assist in that decision, Campus Ministry provides frequent opportunities for the reception of the sacraments. As we are called to, we take Mass and Reconciliation seriously at NC. We give glory to God when we worship Him with joy and reverence. Encountering Christ in a real way can be different for everyone, and as such, Campus Ministry seeks to bring our students to Christ through retreats, pilgrimages, adoration, and service. The work of organizations like Key Club and Student Council are guided by the call to serve our community as Christ served, with dignity and love. Campus Ministry collaborates with organizations at the local, diocesan and national level to give our students every opportunity to come to know Jesus Christ and His Church more fully.

Retreats

Retreats offer our students opportunities to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. In addition to the annual KAIROS retreat for seniors and select juniors, every year, our faculty prepares and leads day retreats for each class at NC. Each day incorporates service and Mass while building community.

  • Freshman Retreat Theme: Prayer-Looking at the lives of the Saints and our different forms of prayer, how can we create and solidify a prayer life?
  • Sophomore Retreat Theme: The Eucharist-The Source and Summit of the Christian life. How can our understanding of the Eucharist deepen and draw us closer to Christ?
  • Junior Retreat Theme: Vocations-What is God calling us to in this life? Is God calling me to married life or religious life?
  • Senior Retreat Theme: Taking the Faith Forward: Life after high school can take you many different places. How can I persevere in my faith?

Annually, our Sophomore class has the opportunity to attend a three day retreat at the Damascus Mission Campus. Students from NC, along with students from all over the country, hear from speakers, celebrate the sacraments, Adore Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, and grow in fellowship with their peers. Building on the experiences from middle school, Damascus provides our students with another great chance to grow in their faith.

Newark Catholic High School Kairos

Kairos

Kairos is a student-led, adult-supervised retreat held over the course of four days at St. Peter and Paul’s retreat center in Newark. It is open to select juniors and all seniors.

Kairos is the Greek word for the right or opportune moment, but has also come to mean “God’s Time.” Kairos at Newark Catholic is about taking time out for God, leaving the world to grow in faith and friendship with the Lord and each other.

Kairos is one of the highlights of the school year for upperclassmen and is a tradition that continues to grow.

Newark Catholic High School St. Joseph The Worker Day

St. Joseph The Worker Day

Every first Friday in May, in honor of the feast of St. Joseph the Worker, the NC student body goes throughout the community to serve those in need. This day, in addition to many service opportunities throughout the year, demonstrates the dignity of our work and the model that St. Joseph is for all of us. Diligent in work, obedience and love for his family, St. Joseph exemplifies how to properly serve. Whether it is assisting at St. Vincent DePaul’s Thrift Store or cleaning headstones at Mount Calvary Cemetery or working with a variety of community partners, we take the call to serve others with love seriously at Newark Catholic.

Newark Catholic High School Catholic Schools Week

Catholic Schools Week

National Catholic Schools Week is traditionally in late January into early February. It is a celebration of our faith and in union with Catholic schools all over the country, a testament to the blessing and joy that is Catholic education. Students can participate in themed jeans days as well as our annual student-teacher volleyball game.

Newark Catholic High School May Crowning

May Crowning

May is the month dedicated to the Blessed Mother and we commemorate that with the traditional crowning of our Mary statues around campus. We are blessed to be surrounded by images of Our Lady who through her witness and intercession, draws us closer to her Son every day. Led by the students, May crowning is an amazing way to dedicate or re-dedicate oneself to devotions to the Mother of God.
